What is a Signal?

A Signal in Clearcue is any piece of data that indicates activity, interest, or intent from a person or company.
Signals are what Clearcue’s Agents continuously collect, interpret, and connect forming the foundation for your Audiences and Lists.
A signal can be almost anything that shows movement or intent, such as:
  • Someone visiting your website or pricing page
  • A company following multiple competitors
  • A founder mentioning a problem your product solves
  • An investor engaging with content in your industry
  • A potential partner launching a related product
  • A professional changing roles or joining a new company
Each individual signal offers a clue. But the real value comes from how these signals combine revealing patterns that indicate true intent.

Why single Signals aren’t enough?

Looking at one signal in isolation can be misleading. Someone may visit your website out of curiosity, like a post because they know the author, or follow your page without real buying interest. When signals are viewed individually, they often create false positives - noise that distracts from genuine opportunities. That’s why Clearcue doesn’t just collect signals but it connects and analyses them in context.

What is Signal Stacking?

Signal stacking is the process of combining multiple related signals over time to uncover meaningful intent. Instead of reacting to a single event, Clearcue identifies patterns across people, companies, and channels that point to real buying, hiring, or partnership potential. For example, a signal stack might include:
  • A prospect engaging with several posts about a problem you solve
  • The same person visiting your pricing page multiple times
  • Their company announcing a new project related to your category
Individually, each signal is weak. Together, they form a stack that shows clear interest and timing. Stacking transforms scattered data into a connected story showing who is leaning in, why, and when the moment to act appears.

Why Signal Stacking matters?

Stacking signals gives you context and confidence. It helps you:
  • Distinguish real intent from random activity
  • Prioritise the right people and companies for outreach
  • Discover patterns you might otherwise miss
  • Act at the right moment, when interest is strongest

How Signals Work with Audiences and Lists?

  • Audiences define who you want to monitor - people or companies relevant to your goals.
  • Signals represent what those people and companies are doing - every action and indicator of intent.
  • Lists organise the results into actionable groups so you can take the right steps based on real patterns.
Together, they form a continuous loop: detect → interpret → act. 👉 Learn how Clearcue’s agents collect and interpret signals in the Agents Guide.
